A lot of us face pressure to make something of our lives, to really make something happen. This week we'll look at the Hebrew book of Ezra to examine how God both relieves us of the pressure to make things happen and makes something happen through our lives at the same time. Join us this Sunday at 10:30 a.m.

Sermon from May 27, 2007 by Darryl Dash - Audio | Transcript

This Saturday afternoon, beginning at 12:15 p.m. and ending around 3:30, we're coming together for a time of prayer, testimony, and challenge. We’ll pause, listen, discover, and engage over some of God’s surprising & desired ways with us.

We'll be thinking about being aware of our own brokenness, our need for community, and how God meets us in our brokenness and provides for our deepest needs. We'll hear the stories of what God has been doing in the lives of some of our people, and a word of challenge from a guest speaker. We'll also have some time to interact and reflect.

Refreshments will be served at half-time.

This Sunday: Opposition

The Book of Ezra in the Hebrew Scriptures is about God restoring his people. Although God restored his people, they faced problem after problem, so much so that they had to stop the work of rebuilding the Temple.

Question: If God is at work, and he is all powerful, why do we run into so many problems? This Sunday at 10:30, we'll be looking at why we go through so many hard times even though we believe that God is in control.

The Bible has a lot to say about idols. We usually think it's talking about wood and stone gods that people worship far away and long ago.

Some, however, argue that idols are very much a part of all of our lives:

An idol is anything we believe we need, apart from Jesus, to make us happy, satisfied, or fulfilled. An idol arises when we desire something more than we desire Jesus; when we fear things rather than God; when we worship ourselves rather than Christ; when we put our trust in anything other than God; when we serve anything other than Jesus. (Gospel Transformation)

This Sunday at 10:30 a.m., we'll look at how worship helps us deal with the sin of idolatry. If we truly want to change, we must focus on worship. Join us this Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
